Lanakila Classic Heads to South Bay Waters
Paddlers of all kinds can take to the sea during the Lanakila Classic on Sunday, Feb. 28. The Classic will use Seaside Lagoon in Redondo Beach as its home base, where paddlers will have grass and sand to stage their canoes.
This year's Classic, open to all ages, offers a Kids' Mini Course, and short and long courses for:
- stand-up paddleboarders,
- outrigger canoes,
- surf skis and
- paddleboarders.
Race fees are $25 for the long and short-course events, and just $5 for the Kids' Mini Course. Race fees include lunch provided by Salt Creek Grille. Racers can register online.
The Lanakila Classic is put on by the Lanakila Outriggers Canoe Club, which formed in 1970. The non-profit has a long and rich history in the Polynesian tradition of outrigger canoe paddling, and is based at King Harbor in Redondo Beach. LOCC consists of paddlers ranging from ages 12-19 to 19-75.
